Product Applications Technician- Houston
The Product Applications Technician is a core technical link to Varel's sales and field engineering teams through data collection, analysis, and reporting of information. This position is the point of contact for assistance in bit selection and bit performance enhancement. Work environment includes office and field locations as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Spends time in the field working with Varel personnel, gathering data, and analyzing projects.
- Works with Geoscience Specialist and uses the resources of Geosciences to understand the formations we are drilling.
- Uses expertise, knowledge and SPOT-Compare to simulate bit performance and assist in product selection from existing inventory and bit designs.
- Uses SPOT for cutting structure development to achieve superior technical performance that considers customers' requirements in ROP, durability, directional signature, etc.
- Plans and conducts studies to examine product performance.
- Analyzes data, extracts and defines relevant information; interprets data for the purpose of determining product performance.
- Works with sales team and assist with performance updates, bit performance analysis, and proposal generation.
- Assist engineering and sales with field evaluation of bit runs either in testing or to help with customer orientation of Varel products.
- Provides assistance on special projects as requested by Product Applications Manager and/or VP of PDC business unit.
- Uses various software applications, spreadsheets, relational databases, and/or reports.
- Prepares monthly report to Product Applications Manager.
Qualification Requirements:
- 2- or 4-year Engineering-related degree.
- Bit design and/or oilfield experience helpful.
SKILLS:
- Advanced computer skills and experience with business software (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical procedures, processes, or engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication skills: oral, written, and presentation.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence and to effectively present information and standards.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts and ability to understand the Metric and English dimensional systems.
- Ability to generate creative solutions to solve practical problems while dealing with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to manage assigned responsibilities, prioritize, and multi-task.
- Detail-oriented. Organize records and information such that they are retrievable and legible.
- Discretion in managing proprietary information belonging to the company. Protect and maintain company property in good working order.
- Ability to effectively function in a team environment.
- Must have ability and willingness to travel to corporate and field offices throughout the Western Hemisphere as required.
LOCATION: Houston, TX with regular travel throughout the Western Hemisphere.
