Technical Sales Representative

Summary:

Responsible for achieving revenue, margin and market share goals for assigned territory and or specific customer accounts while providing pre-sale and post-sale management of customer relationships, inventory requirements, receivables status, and on customer in house guidance of product selection, application.

Prerequisite Requirements: (Preferred)

  • 2 years min. successful prior sales experience.
  • Proven results in managing a sales territory.
  • Experience or exposure to rotary drilling applications within the oil & gas industry.
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Geology, Oil and Gas Technologies or Engineering preferred. Or associates degree with five years experience in the Oil and Gas industry.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with all levels of management and technical personnel at customer locations as well as within the Varel organization.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Knowledge of Drilling process in the Rockies with Denver sales.
  • USA citizen.

Duties Include:

  • Travels throughout assigned territory daily to call on regular and prospective customers in order to solicit orders, and provide technical assistance.
  • Displays or demonstrates products using samples or catalogs, and emphasizes added value product features.
  • Authors and presents written proposals, and performance re-caps with emphasis on economies of run, geological interfaces and perceived product benefits.
  • Prepares sales forecasts, product requirement forecasts, and new product development requests.
  • Monitors engineering test bits as well as standard production bits, and reports results through the accumulation of field data.
  • Stimulates the development of new products by gathering and reporting performance data of existing and competitive products through the accumulation of field data
  • Actively follows all company and customer safety requirements, rules, and regulations.
  • Actively follows all company policies.

Technical Skills:

  • Effective sales and negotiation skills.
  • Problem solving and innovative skills, including ability to analyze, interpret, understand and successfully resolve customer complaints within the best interests of the customer and Varel International.
  • Demonstrated competencies in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Outlook.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, mark-up, GPM, commissions and percentages.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

Physical Skills:

Must be able to travel throughout the assigned territory, and to our corporate offices and other locations as required. Must be able to work in all seasons of outside weather conditions. Must be able to work near moving mechanical parts.
