Beyond 3D Bit Modeling

Pro-Engineer is one of the world’s few premier full 3D modeling softwares. Varel has built custom programming on the commercially available Pro-Engineer product to create a complete and highly specialized drill bit CAD capability.

The Varel process imports data directly from SPOT into the CAD system. The drill bit designer can now use all of the capabilities of Pro-E and the Varel enhancements to create the best possible bit body for the previously designed cutting structure. The designer uses the Pro-E tool to lay out blades, open face volumes, and nozzle locations. Design and product quality standards insure proper sizing of bit body structures to support the cutting structure and to allow for proper hydraulic flow. The output of Pro-E CAD is a fully configured 3D drill bit model.

The Pro-E output ports directly into the Varel CFD model.
